about

welcome
Welcome. My name is Karson Brown. I grew up on the water in the Pacific Northwest in a counterculture of artistry, surrounded by a family of writers, painters, poets, and musicians. I’m a multidisciplinary artist specializing in bespoke painting, photography, beach sculptures, and writing.
My history with creativity is raw, and organic, primarily through osmosis. My great uncle, the Canadian painter Tom Thomson’s paintings graced the walls of my ancestral home. His brushstrokes on canvas are a continual inspiration in my artistic life. I grew up at the base of my grandmother Arlene’s easel, hours spent in her linseed oil-scented studio along the shores of Lake Washington heavily influenced my relationship with color and design. My most treasured possession is an oil painting of sailboats my grandmother and I collaborated on when I was four. When I close my eyes, gramma’s paint brushes soaking in turpentine remain the perfume of my mind.
My creative endeavors are a vibrant tapestry woven from the influences of several iconic artists. In my photography, I channel the bold and innovative spirit of Andy Warhol, capturing the essence of modern life with a playful, pop art twist. My beach sculptures draw inspiration from the ephemeral beauty found in Andy Goldsworthy and Georgia O'Keeffe's work, as I craft organic pieces that celebrate the ever-changing relationship between nature and art. My painting method is influenced by abstract painter Helen Frankenthaler, embracing her pioneering techniques in color field painting to explore fluidity, emotion, and the abstract interplay of hues on canvas. In writing, I’ve discovered a kinship with Beryl Markham, an avid adventurer, who penned the thrilling memoir, West with the Night, whose prose I aspire to emulate in my writing. Through these diverse mediums, I strive to create a dynamic and cohesive body of work that serves as the intersection between the natural world and contemporary art.
Throughout the years I have displayed my various artistic mediums in Galleries and Boutiques around the Pacific Northwest. Stay tuned for new announcements, and upcoming shows.
Thank you for visiting. I look forward to connecting.
