Karson’s first camera was a pink Kodak 110, expanding into Polaroid, darkroom, and digital thereafter. Growing up in the 80’s, she was profoundly impacted by the groundbreaking work of Andy Warhol, and the creative freedom he conveyed in his radical images. The thrill of instant artistic gratification in film was intoxicating. Her original rolls were filled with photos of her Barbie and beloved Siamese cat, inspired by images Andy took of his famous friends posing with fantastic abstract objects. Still-life images of them posing inside and outside, depending upon the weather, were the origins of her understanding of lighting. Her grandmother would collect the rolls every few weeks, drive up the hill to the local drug store, and splurge on one-hour photos. These early days of exploring and expanding creativity through photography established a lifelong lust for images.
Over decades of travel, she has curated images from her favorite places on earth. Karson offers a collection of photo posters mounted on white-painted wooden boards. All photo boards measure 16”x20”
